Leadership Programs
Leaders in Training (Age 15 by May 1, 2010)
The Beginner L.I.T. program is for those special
15-year-olds that show the potential to someday be a
positive role model for children as a Camp Cosby counselor.
The Beginner L.I.T. program is the first rung on the Camp
Cosby Leadership ladder. The selected boys and girls will be at
camp for three weeks developing leadership and communication
skills, as they take their first steps toward learning how
to be responsible for others. L.I.T.s engage in challenging,
but fun, team-building exercises – some on our new, the
first, and only Team-Oriented High Ropes Challenge Course in
Alabama - and introductory leadership development workshops
to learn skills necessary to becoming a successful Camp
Cosby counselor. Participants will learn the first steps in
instructing children in various camp activities and will
have a leadership experience in a cabin with younger
children. In addition, they will deepen and make new
friendships with an outstanding group of 15-year-olds.
Whether a L.I.T. ever does become a counselor at Camp Cosby,
the fun, friendships, and skills they develop this summer
will be a strong foundation for making a difference in the
world in the future.

Counselor in Training (Age
16 by May 1, 2010)
The Advanced C.I.T. program is a four-week selective program
for outstanding 16-year-olds who have an interest in serving
Camp Cosby as a counselor in the future or who just want to
be with a group of outstanding kids enjoying a summer of
fun, friendships, safe adventures, and skill building
experiences. This is the second rung on the Camp Cosby
leadership ladder* that can lead to our inviting the teen
back the following summer to be a Junior Counselor. Through
team-building activities, camp skits, and special C.I.T.-only
events, the Advanced C.I.T.s invariably become a close-knit
group and friends for life. This program also gives the
C.I.T.s more supported experience assisting counselors at
Camp Cosby activities and more opportunity to live in a
cabin supporting younger children. Even if an Advanced C.I.T.
does not want to become a Camp Cosby counselor in the
future, the experience increases each 16-year-old’s
leadership skills and prepares them for success and
friendships in the future.

*The Camp Cosby Leadership Ladder is a carefully designed
set of experiences that result in outstanding young boys and
girls learning communication and leadership skills necessary
to be a Camp Cosby counselor – and to be successful in life.
The first rung is for 15-year olds in our four-week
Beginning Counselor-In-Training program. The next rung is
for 16-year olds who are selected for the Advanced
Counselor-In-Training program. Both the C.I.T. programs
require teens to be selected to participate in the program
by the Camp Cosby Leadership Development Committee. Even
more selective, those who show the desire and skills to be
paid for working with children are invited to be with us for
a ten week experience in being a Junior Counselor. The minimum age to become a
Junior
Counselor is 17.
Once a person is a Camp Counselor, there are still more
rungs on the Cosby Leadership Ladder. We have positions
whereby the most outstanding leaders among our counselors
are placed in supervisory positions where they ensure camp’s
safety and care of campers is at the highest possible level.
Even as adults, there are summer staff, full-time staff, and
even Board of Management positions that all allow for an
increasingly more responsible outreach to the children we
serve. Whether at Camp Cosby or elsewhere, we are confident
that the leadership, friend-making and communication skills
learned in Camp Cosby’s Leadership Development program will
make a difference in the lives of all it touches.
