What we are known for
Camp Cosby is known for three things:
1. An amazing breadth of activities
Few camps have as many exciting activities as Camp Cosby.
Some of the favorites include wakeboarding and waterskiing,
horseback riding, mini bikes (small motorized dirt bikes),
a water park with all kinds of inflatable toys, and climbing
activities including a 60 foot alpine tower, a 500 foot long
Cosby zoom that splashes kids in the water, and a new team
high ropes course. The few camps that do have this breadth
all charge an extra fee for activities such as horses,
minibikes, and water skiing. At Camp
Cosby, our mission is for every individual child to be
honored and supported, regardless of a parent's ability to
pay. Every child gets to experience every activity at Camp
Cosby for one tuition cost.
2. Diversity
Camp Cosby is blessed to host children from across the
ethnic and socioeconomic spectrum. Last summer,
children from 17 states and 8 countries lived peacefully
together, as our children do each summer. Each child is
respected and supported by a tradition centered in the camp
motto, “I Am Third,” after God first and others second. This
tradition of service is immediately felt by children, who
quickly learn that Camp Cosby is a unique place where people
of any religion, ethnicity, and economic background can live
together peacefully. In the safety of Camp Cosby children
can learn to appreciate each other as they play, eat, live,
and learn together all summer.
3. Friendliness
All camps are “friendly,” but very often have unwritten
obstacles children and parents must negotiate before being
accepted as a member of their community. Some camps have
actual hazing or a series of “practical jokes,” they pull on
children new to camp; Camp Cosby is different! From
the first time you call on the phone, to the first time you
arrive at camp, or the first time you meet our staff in a
friend’s house, you will feel the genuine friendship that is
the base of all our relationships. Most children who are
with us in the summer make special “Camp Cosby friends” that
they will have for a lifetime. Many grown-ups tell us that
many of their best friends are friends they made while at
Camp Cosby!
