About Camp Cosby Since 1922, Camp
Cosby has helped set the standard of excellence in resident camping
through programs that match the interests and abilities of
each camper. At Camp Cosby, boys and girls have the
opportunity to build self esteem, grow, learn, and challenge
themselves. Campers also learn to develop values such as
caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. through meeting
international staff and campers, children develop both an
appreciation of international relationships and cultural
understanding. Camp Cosby's beautiful location provides
campers with an excellent opportunity to appreciate the
natural environment and have FUN.
Mission of Camp Cosby
Camp Cosby is a branch of the Metropolitan Birmingham YMCA
and shares the same mission, which is “To put
Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs
that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.”
Camp Cosby also shares the same four core values as the YMCA
nationally. These core values are Caring, Honesty, Respect
and Responsibility.
In addition, Camp Cosby is guided by its motto, “I Am
Third.”
The Camp Cosby Motto: I Am Third
When Camp Cosby was last accredited, the two experienced
American Camp Association visitors said we had passed every
item. But, more than that, they wanted to let us know how
clearly they felt a “spirit” in the community…something
special that told them that this was a positive place where
kids were highly respected. They pointed out how safe,
socially and emotionally, as well as physically, the camp
felt … and how everyone on the staff was so supportive and
fun with the kids.
Alumni, campers, and parents have often felt the same “Camp
Cosby spirit,” when at the camp. That spirit is hard to put
into words, but very present, whether spoken or just felt.
Many people have tried to understand the “Camp Cosby
spirit.” What most come to believe is that the Camp Cosby
motto, “I Am Third,” is at the core of that spirit. Putting
God first and others second allows every member of the Camp
Cosby community to trust in God and to serve others. |
