Student FAQ Q: What are cabins
like?
A: All cabins are equipped with heating and air
conditioning, have the bathrooms and showers inside, and
have carpeting. The cabins are also equipped with bunk beds,
but participants need to supply their own bedding, including
a pillow. And of course, don’t forget those toiletries and a
towel!
Q: What should I/need to bring?
A: Click here for a
suggested packing list
Q: Who will watch over me in the cabin?
A: Chaperones and/or teachers attending the trip are
assigned to cabins with the students and are responsible for
the students at all times while in the cabins.
Q: Can I bring a cell phone?
A: Students are not allowed to bring any electronics to Camp
Cosby’s Outdoor Classroom including cell phones. Students
have access to Camp phones 24 hours a day, so you can call
your parents any time if you really need to.
Q: Can I bring a snack?
A: NO! Depending on the length of your school’s stay,
students will enjoy one or more of our wonderful breakfasts,
lunches, and/or dinners! Each meal is “all you can eat”, and
we even offer visits to our Camp Store where students can
choose between a variety of snacks. We do not allow any food
or drinks (except for water) into our cabins, this insures
that all of the creatures we study in the Outdoor Classroom
stay outside!
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: Almost all of The Outdoor Classrooms 46 classes occur
outside, rain or shine! It is important that students be
prepared and pack accordingly. Click here for a
suggested packing list. Of course, if safety becomes an
issue, we move classes to sheltered areas. We have our very
own weather satellite monitoring system that we continuously
monitor. At the first sign of hazardous weather, we move
students to safety. To operate The Outdoor Classroom for
over 30 years, safety has to be our top priority!
Q: Who will be teaching my classes?
A: Each student is assigned to a “Trail Group” which is led
by a Naturalist. Naturalists are professional environmental
educators that have undergone extensive training and are
also a lot of fun! To learn more
about The Outdoor Classroom
Naturalists, click here.
Q: What kind of stuff will I be doing?
A: It depends on your teachers. The Outdoor Classroom offers
46 different classes in topics such as Ecology, Earth
Sciences, Teambuilding, Outdoor Skills, and Living History.
Your teachers will pick out the classes they feel best suit
your needs, but no matter what you pick out, you’re going to
have FUN!
